Overview
- The shooting, which happened shortly before 2.45am on Monday 25 May, killed 30-year-old Shanice Brookes after she was hit outside the One Four One bar and was described by police as an innocent bystander.
- South Yorkshire Police and the Crown Prosecution Service have charged Jemele Rhone with murder, possession of a firearm and possession of criminal property, and charged Deiryen Dyce with assisting an offender and several ammunition and drugs offences.
- Both defendants were remanded in custody at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court and are due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on 1 June.
- Prosecutors told the court they allege Rhone fired the shot that killed Ms Brookes and that Dyce assisted the offender afterwards, and police say ammunition recovered in custody is being examined in relation to the scene.
- Friends and local organisations have paid tribute and raised substantial funds to cover funeral costs and support Shanice’s 10-year-old son, while detectives continue to appeal for witnesses to contact South Yorkshire Police or Crimestoppers.
