Two Arrested in Trichy After CCTV Captures Puppies Killed in Neighbour Dispute

Police say the arrests followed a People for Animals complaint backed by CCTV footage.

Overview

  • Jeeyapuram police arrested J Meenakshi Mishra, 28, after two newborn stray puppies were killed in Kambarasampettai near Tiruchirappalli.
  • Officers said Meenakshi threw the puppies against a wall on March 4 after an earlier quarrel in which neighbour G Bhuvaneswari allegedly injured her three-year-old son with a stone.
  • Meenakshi was booked under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
  • Following a complaint by Meenakshi’s husband, police registered a case under Section 118 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and arrested Bhuvaneswari.
  • Animal-welfare vice-president Ajay Bharath of People for Animals filed the complaint that triggered the case after the CCTV clip circulated widely on social media.
