- Jeeyapuram police arrested J Meenakshi Mishra, 28, after two newborn stray puppies were killed in Kambarasampettai near Tiruchirappalli.

- Meenakshi was booked under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
- Following a complaint by Meenakshi’s husband, police registered a case under Section 118 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and arrested Bhuvaneswari.
- Animal-welfare vice-president Ajay Bharath of People for Animals filed the complaint that triggered the case after the CCTV clip circulated widely on social media.
