Two Arrested After Security Alert and Suspicious Items Found in South Belfast

Specialist officers removed the items for forensic testing to assess any ongoing public-safety risk.

Overview

  • Police sealed roads and evacuated homes near Roosevelt Street and Iverna Street after a search uncovered suspicious items, with the Sandy Row Community Centre used as a temporary holding point.
  • Ammunition Technical Officers attended the scene and removed the recovered items for further forensic and technical examination.
  • A 37-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman were arrested in connection with the inquiry and remain in police custody as enquiries continue.
  • The police cordon was later lifted and residents were allowed to return to their homes while officers continue searches at the property.
  • PSNI asked anyone with information to contact 101 or use the online reporting form and said the public-safety operation was a precaution while specialist testing is carried out.
