Twin Cities Hit 77 Degrees, Set March 21 Record Before Sharp Cooldown

A cold front will drop Sunday highs back to the mid-40s.

  • The National Weather Service reported MSP reached 77°F on March 21, breaking the daily record previously set at 76°F.
  • Forecasts had called for widespread 70s across southern Minnesota with pockets of 80s in the southwest.
  • Forecasters also noted a stark north–south split, with northern areas near the border roughly 30 to 40 degrees cooler than the south.
  • A cold front is expected to move through Saturday night with a chance for a few sprinkles.
  • Sunday will be much cooler with highs near 45°F, followed by a mostly dry work week with temperatures in the 50s.
