Overview
- Bobwhite Energy Storage, a Tenaska affiliate, signed a 20-year agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority for a 225 MW / 900 MWh battery project in Hawkins County, East Tennessee.
- The system’s 900 MWh capacity paired with 225 MW of power means about four hours of output, which lets TVA store power when supply is ample and deliver it during peak use.
- The project is in advanced development with construction planned for 2027 and commercial operation targeted for late 2029.
- Tenaska and TVA estimate about $300 million in investment and up to 75 peak construction jobs, with hiring focused on nearby skilled workers and local suppliers.
- With Bobwhite under contract, TVA reports 425 MW of standalone battery capacity signed across its seven-state territory to support reliability and affordable service.
