Overview
- TV Azteca announced a collaboration with Dolby Laboratories at the NAB Show in Las Vegas to carry Dolby Atmos on its broadcast channels.
- ATSC 1.0 will transport the audio using Dolby AC-4, a codec that fits multiple sound tracks and 3D audio into the existing TV signal.
- Viewers with compatible TVs will be able to pick the narrator language, turn on audio descriptions, or listen to ambient sound only from the same broadcast.
- Sets that can decode AC-4 will get the full Atmos features, while other TVs will play the same programs with standard audio without any distortion or re-tuning.
- TV Azteca says this is a first for Mexico’s free TV and credits Imagine Communications and Ateme for the distribution and processing backbone, with no public launch date yet.
