Turkiye Captures 10 Suspected ISIS Operatives in Syria

The operation with Syrian intelligence moved suspects to Turkiye for arrest, with one held in extended detention to secure testimony and evidence.

Overview

  • Turkiye’s National Intelligence Organisation says it located and seized 10 people in Syria who had joined ISIS after crossing from Turkiye and were moved back to Turkiye for processing.
  • Nine detainees were formally arrested and one had their detention extended after transfer to Turkish custody, following coordinated field operations and close surveillance.
  • Interrogations reportedly produced testimony about ISIS operational orders, internal training and propaganda, and identified Ali Bora as the group’s intelligence chief for Turkiye who is wanted under an Interpol Red Notice.
  • One detainee, Omer Deniz Dundar, was tied by Turkish authorities to the 2015 Ankara train station bombing network and to explosive devices previously seized in 2017.
  • The arrests aim to provide evidence for criminal cases, to disrupt ISIS’s domestic networks and to underscore practical security cooperation between Turkish and Syrian intelligence services.
