Overview
- Micaela, which reached Quilca on Friday, marked the latest step in building the Line 4 branch tunnel in Callao.
- The machine has excavated more than 5 km to date and has averaged about 16 meters of progress per day, according to Peru’s transport ministry.
- Crews will drive the remaining stretch toward Morales Duárez and finish at Carmen de la Legua, where the branch will connect with Line 2.
- Physical work on Line 4 stands above 80% complete, and the branch includes eight stations along Elmer Faucett Avenue.
- Together, Line 2 and the Line 4 branch will create Peru’s first underground metro corridor with about 35 km and 35 stations, a link expected to cut cross-city travel times for riders in Lima and Callao.
