- This week the Concejo Deliberante’s Transport Commission issued formal dictámenes that would raise the urban bus fare from $1,250 to $1,700 and lift taxi rates to a $1,200 flag and $120 per 100 meters.
- The measures now face a plenary vote in the Concejo Deliberante and will only take effect after the Departamento Ejecutivo Municipal signs the ordinance into law.
- Council support is narrowly divided with reports of nine councillors in favor and eight against, leaving final approval uncertain.
- Local companies sought a much larger increase based on an Aetat cost study that proposed about $2,400 per trip, while the commission’s figures followed talks with Aetat, the UTA union and the city’s mobility secretary.
- At the national level a 2% distance-based rise for AMBA bus lines took effect June 15 and the UTA has warned it could call strikes if paritary wage talks do not move, creating added pressure on service continuity.
