- The Japan Meteorological Agency reported a magnitude 6.7 offshore earthquake in northern Japan late Friday local time after revising its initial 6.5 estimate.
- The epicenter was about 80 kilometers off Misawa in Aomori at a depth near 54 kilometers, and shaking reached intensity 4 on Japan’s 1–7 scale.
- JMA issued a tsunami alert forecasting waves up to one meter, and only small waves up to about 70 centimeters were recorded at several coastal sites before the alert was lifted.
