Overview

  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya arrived in Kyiv and thanked Ukrzaliznytsia for bringing her to the capital, according to her social media posts.
  • She started the visit with a grave-side tribute at Lukianivske military cemetery for 24-year-old Belarusian volunteer Maria Zaitseva, who was killed fighting in eastern Ukraine.
  • Ukrainian outlets report the visit will include meetings with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, parliamentary leaders, and EU diplomats, and may coincide with the opening of a Mission of Belarusian Democratic Forces in Ukraine.
  • Last week Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry named an official to handle contacts with the Belarusian opposition after a recent meeting between Sybiha and Tsikhanouskaya, signalling a move from informal contacts toward formal channels.
  • The visit links Belarusian democratic forces to Ukraine’s political and diplomatic structures and could strengthen coordination on volunteers, representation in Kyiv, and international support for Belarusian opposition aims.
