Overview

  • Tshwane Bus Service restored full operations after fuel reached all three municipal depots, ending a short disruption to routes.
  • Earlier cuts left far fewer buses on the road and stranded many commuters, who had to pay more for taxis and other rides to reach work.
  • The minister in the presidency said panic buying and hoarding drained some stations and caused delivery backlogs, while overall supply remains adequate.
  • A steep fuel price rise took effect this week, lifting petrol by R3.06 per litre and diesel by between R7.37 and R7.51 per litre.
  • To soften the blow, the government cut the general fuel levy by R3 per litre until 5 May, and officials are weighing steps to rebuild local refining capacity as South Africa relies on imported refined fuel.
