- Colorado officials and TSA announced Monday that Coloradans can use the myColorado mobile driver’s license (mDL) at Denver International Airport TSA checkpoints and at more than 250 participating U.S. airports.
- TSA is using Credential Authentication Technology version CAT-2, which reads the digital credential, checks same-day ticketing and screening status, and can take a live photo to compare with the mDL image without storing the photo.
- Participation in the CAT-2 facial comparison is optional and travelers who decline will be offered an alternative identity check by a TSA officer.
- The myColorado mDL is available at no cost through the myColorado app Wallet, early July trial data show about 20,000 activations and roughly 3,700 monthly users at DEN, and officials still advise carrying a physical ID as a backup.
- Passengers have mixed reactions about relying on phones because of battery or comfort concerns, and the rollout follows wider adoption of mDLs nationwide and mDL options from Apple, Google and Samsung that TSA’s CAT-2 units can also read.
