Trump Seeks Update on Patrick Mahomes’ Recovery at White House
Kansas City is weighing OTA participation that would forfeit PUP eligibility at the start of camp.
Overview
- At the White House on Monday, President Donald Trump asked Slap’s BBQ owners about Patrick Mahomes’ knee rehab and told them to pass along his support.
- Over the weekend, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Mahomes is in a good position to do some work, though the staff is still deciding how much he will do at OTAs.
- The first OTA sessions run May 26–28, and any participation there would make Mahomes ineligible to open training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
- Mahomes tore the ACL and LCL in Week 15 of 2025, had surgery with Dr. Dan Cooper, rehabs daily in Kansas City with Julie Frymyer, and travels to Dallas for follow-ups.
- General manager Brett Veach said the team plans to lean more on the run to limit early dropbacks for Mahomes, a shift that includes adding running back Kenneth Walker III.
