Trump Media Terminates Crypto.com CRO Treasury Deal

Management said crowding in the digital-asset treasury market prompted a strategic shift toward monetizing Truth Social’s audience, licensing data, and closing a merger with fusion firm TAE.

Overview

  • Trump Media, Crypto.com and Yorkville mutually agreed to terminate the proposed Trump Media Group CRO Strategy on Friday, ending plans for a publicly traded company built to accumulate and stake Crypto.com’s CRO token.
  • Planned integration of Crypto.com–powered prediction markets into Truth Social was scaled back to a marketing arrangement that will promote Crypto.com’s products rather than operate the market infrastructure directly.
  • Interim CEO Kevin McGurn said competition and market saturation drove the pullback while Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek said proceeding under current market conditions “doesn't make sense,” and Crypto.com will reallocate CRO commitments to other opportunities.
  • The announcement pushed CRO prices down about 4–6% and did not remove Trump Media’s existing crypto exposure, which includes prior CRO purchases and remaining bitcoin holdings after transfers of some BTC to addresses tied to Crypto.com.
  • The unwind narrows a broader 2025 crypto push and adds momentum to Trump Media’s priority of data licensing and a pending all-stock merger with TAE, while lawmakers have increased ethics and regulatory scrutiny of Trump-linked crypto activity.
