Trump Accounts App Launches Nationwide

The Treasury’s new mobile platform will be the primary way parents manage the child investment accounts and it sets up the July 4 start for federal seed deposits.

Overview

  • The Treasury released the Trump Accounts app on Thursday, May 28, making it available in the Apple and Google app stores as the main interface for the program.
  • Parents and guardians who previously filed IRS Form 4547 will receive phased activation emails from the Treasury between now and July 4 with instructions to complete account setup.
  • Investment activity and the one-time $1,000 federal seed deposits for children born 2025–2028 are scheduled to begin around July 4 when outside contributions will also be permitted.
  • The app includes eight financial‑literacy modules and was built with Bank of New York Mellon and Robinhood, with design input from the White House National Design Studio led by Joe Gebbia.
  • Trump Accounts are custodial, IRA‑style, tax‑deferred accounts limited to low‑cost U.S. equity index funds with a $5,000 annual private contribution cap and have drawn corporate matches and large philanthropic pledges while researchers warn the opt‑in design may leave many vulnerable children unserved.
