Truck Driver Dies After Grain Chute Brings Down Power Lines in McHenry County

Investigators are examining a fatal electrocution during a grain offloading on County Line Road.

  • First responders were called at 5:17 p.m. Monday to County Line Road south of Jackson Road after farm equipment struck overhead power lines.
  • A John Deere 9520RX pulling a Brent 2096 grain cart was offloading into a parked semi when the Avalanche grain chute hit the lines and tore them down.
  • The downed live lines energized the tractor, and a 38-year-old Woodstock truck driver was electrocuted as he tried to approach and board it.
  • The 56-year-old Hebron tractor operator was transported to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford in fair condition.
  • ComEd responded to secure the lines as the sheriff’s Major Crash Investigation Unit and the county coroner’s office opened an active investigation.
