Tropical Depression Six Forms Southwest of Azores

Forecasters say a short window exists for it to briefly become Tropical Storm Fay before upper-level winds and dry air weaken the system over open water.

  • The National Hurricane Center upgraded Invest 99L to Tropical Depression Six on Saturday, Sept. 19, placing its center about 525 miles southwest of the Azores with maximum sustained winds near 35 mph and a very slow northward drift.
