- Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated the 50-bed Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Agartala Civil Hospital on Sunday, July 12, 2026, and said it is the first hospital to be run by the Agartala Municipal Corporation.
- The facility includes oxygen-supported beds, an on-site oxygen generation plant, an Effluent Treatment Plant, ambulance services, evening outpatient clinics, and capacity for minor and normal surgeries.
- The hospital was built at an estimated cost of Rs 20.37 crore and will operate as a fully paperless, technology-driven pilot to test digital records and integrated operations.
- Officials said the model will be scaled to other municipal councils and nagar panchayats if successful and highlighted recent health gains in the state such as seven kidney transplants and an 83% drop in out-of-state referrals.
- Officials expect the new hospital to ease pressure on city hospitals, speed emergency care for Agartala residents, and fit into broader plans to add specialists, new medical colleges and transplant services across Tripura.
