- Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated the three-day Tripura Global Pineapple Festival in New Delhi on June 27 to showcase the state’s GI‑tagged Queen pineapple to national and international buyers.
- The state says it has secured Ministry of DoNER support for a reported Rs 234–236 crore programme to expand marketing, processing and value addition for pineapples, including proposals for two bromelain extraction plants in Agartala and Gomati.
- Officials gave production and trade baselines for growth plans, saying Tripura produces about 1.78–1.87 lakh metric tonnes of pineapple a year with roughly 23,000 tonnes of the Queen variety and that since 2018 about 33 tonnes were exported and nearly 15,000 tonnes supplied to other Indian states.
- Festival organisers brought together farmers, exporters, buyers, researchers and policy makers and are running stalls and cultural events to link horticulture with tourism, handicrafts and investment opportunities.
- State ministers say the processing investments should cut perishability, raise farmer incomes and expand export readiness, with bromelain plants quoted as having potential annual revenue and broader targets set to grow the sector’s value by 2028.
