Overview
- An employment tribunal found that Holiday Extras breached its duty to make reasonable adjustments for travel consultant Laura Tait by not allowing her to join meetings with her camera off and by failing to reduce her voice-call duties.
- On 24 August 2023 Tait told trainers she felt “super anxious” and asked to keep her camera off but was instructed to start with it on, could not cope and was told to log off, a moment the judge said showed the employer knew she was overwhelmed.
- The company formally agreed a camera-off adjustment on 4 October 2024, but the tribunal said that reasonable change should have been put in place from 24 August 2023 and that the delay left Tait at a substantial workplace disadvantage.
- Tait was signed off sick with work-related stress and anxiety in October 2023 and has not returned to work; the tribunal will decide compensation at a later hearing while some of her other adjustment claims were dismissed.
- The ruling applies UK law on reasonable adjustments to remote-work practices and is likely to force employers to review camera policies, scheduling and task allocation to avoid similar liability.
