Overview
- The 39-year-old woman from Birbhum was allegedly recruited with a Rs 40,000 advance and taken to Delhi and Gurugram to work as a domestic helper.
- Family members say she was confined in a Sector 91 apartment with a digitised locking system and made to work more than 16 hours a day under repeated physical abuse.
- The case came to light in March when the survivor used a visiting technician’s phone to call her sister, leading to an FIR at Illambazar Police Station on June 4 under the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act and relevant BNS provisions.
- A coordinated operation by West Bengal and Gurugram police, district administrations and NGOs rescued her on Friday, and authorities found the apartment owners absconding and pasted notices at the flat.
- The survivor is receiving medical care for alleged head, arm and ear injuries while a multi‑agency investigation continues and the labour department has formally classified the matter as bonded labour.
