Trial Lesson Plane Makes Precautionary Landing Beside A1 in Northumberland

The instructor described a deliberate field landing prompted by reduced engine power.

Overview

  • Just before 9am, a light aircraft from Eshott Airfield made a controlled landing in a field next to the A1 near Morpeth.
  • Pilot Peter Brooks, 77, an instructor with the North East Flight Academy, reported the engine was losing revs and chose the field as a safety measure.
  • Three passengers were on board and all four people were unharmed.
  • Photos show the aircraft at the field entrance with its landing gear down and no obvious damage as it awaits recovery.
  • Northumbria Police said they did not attend, and the Civil Aviation Authority has been notified for follow-up.
