Trespass Near Gloucester Disrupts Cheltenham Trains as Lines Reopen

Police arrested a man on the tracks near Gloucester, with services running again but recovery delays pushing into the early afternoon.

  • National Rail reported cancellations and delays of up to 40–60 minutes as services recovered, with disruption initially forecast to ease between 12:30 and 1pm.
  • Gloucestershire Live said lines reopened around midday, yet knock-on delays continued for passengers until after 2pm.
  • British Transport Police were called at about 9:33am near Horton Road level crossing, where a man was detained, assessed by paramedics and arrested on suspicion of trespass and obstructing the railway.
  • Great Western Railway allowed tickets to be used at no extra cost on specified CrossCountry and Transport for Wales services and on local Stagecoach and First buses.
  • The disruption hit key routes into Cheltenham, including GWR from London Paddington and services from Cardiff, Bristol Temple Meads, Nottingham and Worcester, as more than 50,000 were expected for the 1:20pm opening race.
