Tree Falls at PGL Marchants Hill, 18 People Injured

Waverley Council has opened an investigation after a large medical evacuation, raising renewed scrutiny of the centre's safety.

Overview

  • The tree at PGL’s Marchants Hill, which collapsed on Monday, injured 18 people including multiple children with one child airlifted to a London hospital with a serious leg injury.
  • Emergency services sent multiple ambulance crews, Surrey Police, Surrey Fire & Rescue and an air ambulance team of a doctor and two advanced paramedics to the scene.
  • Six casualties were taken to Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford and eleven others were assessed and treated at the site before being discharged.
  • PGL confirmed an incident, said injured children are receiving medical care, and said it is working with schools and emergency services to support families.
  • Waverley Borough Council, which enforces health and safety at the site, has launched a formal inquiry and investigators will consider this alongside the centre’s 2023 prosecution and £1 million fine after earlier child injuries.
