Overview
- A group of travellers moved into Locke Park on Saturday afternoon, June 13, and have pitched caravans near the park’s tennis courts.
- Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council said it is monitoring and assessing the situation and is working on an appropriate solution.
- For security reasons the council has locked every park gate except the main entrance on Corporation Road and said access will remain through that entrance.
- Photos and reports on Sunday show the caravans remain at the park while the council coordinates next steps and promises further updates.
- Locke Park is a well-used public amenity with gardens, a boating lake, tennis courts and a children’s play area, which the council cited when restricting access and planning its response.
