Overview
- The settlement of soil beneath two tracks near New Harangajao left Lines 1 and 2 out of service after heavy monsoon rain, with the damage estimated at about 300 metres and reported on Thursday, July 30.
- All train movements have been shifted to the remaining Line 3 under strict monitoring and safety checks, and passenger trains are banned through the affected stretch between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.
- Restoration teams and heavy machinery have been deployed on a war footing to rebuild the sunken section while work continues under weather constraints.
- Northeast Frontier Railway has extended six pairs of special trains (12 services) to ease disruption, including additional weekly Dibrugarh–Kolkata runs through August and a revised Rangiya timing for the Kolkata–Dibrugarh special from August 3.
