TPWD Launches Catfish Stocking at 18 Urban Lakes Statewide

The rollout aims to make fishing easy to try in city parks.

Overview

  • TPWD began delivering channel catfish to select city lakes this week under its seasonal Neighborhood Fishin’ rollout.
  • The plan covers 18 small urban lakes statewide to give residents a place to fish close to home.
  • Four sites in Greater Houston — Burke Crenshaw, Community Park Lake, Herman Little Park, Mary Jo Peckham Park — are now in the rotation.
  • Austin’s Kingfisher Lake and Bullfrog Pond at Travis County East Metro Park will receive regular stockings through October with a brief August pause.
  • Adults must hold a fishing license while anglers under 17 or Texans born before Jan. 1, 1931 are exempt, and TPWD posts catfish size and bag limits to guide what people can keep.
