TP‑Link Unveils First Consumer Wi‑Fi 8 Lineup at IFA

Overview

  • TP‑Link unveiled the Archer 8 Ultra router and Deco 8 Ultra mesh at IFA in Berlin on Tuesday, and the company said Archer 8 preorders will open on September 30 in select regions.
  • The Archer 8 Ultra is a tri‑band router with 18 internal antennas, up to 19 Gbps aggregate wireless and 10 Gbps wired connectivity while the Deco 8 Ultra mesh claims up to 22 Gbps combined wireless, 10 Gbps wired ports, and a three‑pack range of about 9,800 sq ft.
  • TP‑Link says its StabilityEngine bundles Wi‑Fi 8 technologies — including Enhanced Long Range (ELR), Distributed Resource Units (DRU), Non‑Primary Channel Access (NPCA), unequal modulation (UEQM) and new modulation and coding schemes (MCS) — to boost edge coverage, uplink for low‑power devices, and resistance to interference.
  • The company plans a phased rollout with the Deco 8 mesh in Q1 2027 and travel router, extenders and adapters in Q2 2027, but full benefits will depend on Wi‑Fi 8 client devices arriving in 2027 and firmware updates as the standard finalizes.
  • The IEEE 802.11bn Wi‑Fi 8 standard remains a draft and is expected to be finalized around 2028, and TP‑Link’s absence from U.S. exemption lists means regional availability and supported features may vary for consumers.
