Toyota’s GR Supra Begins Parity Tests as Swindon V8 Enters Final Sign-Off

Walkinshaw pushes for Australian sign-off of Swindon’s UK-developed 5.2-litre V8 before parity testing ahead of the late-February opener.

Overview

  • Walkinshaw TWG is sending the #1 Supra to Queensland for Supercars’ parity program that will double as its shakedown, starting with MSR’s chassis dyno then up to two days at Queensland Raceway.
  • The Toyota will be benchmarked against a Triple Eight Mustang and a Team 18 Camaro during Bathurst 12 Hour sessions, before the full-field Sydney test on February 18 and the season opener on February 20–22.
  • Swindon Powertrain detailed the 5.2-litre 2UR-GSE targeting about 600 bhp, retaining OE head and block with hydraulic VVT and a 3D-printed inlet, with final assembly and servicing at Walkinshaw’s Clayton facility.
  • Walkinshaw requires five engines to be signed off by Supercars with spares expected only by race week, as Brad Jones Racing receives its first race-spec unit after earlier building cars with a dummy engine.
  • Testing history includes a UK-built mule logging over 5,000 km since September with one dropped valve reported, a race-spec first run on the category dyno in mid-January, and initial track laps due Monday at Queensland Raceway.
