Overview
- Toyota began assembly of the all-new RAV4 Hybrid at its Georgetown, Kentucky complex following a multi-year investment push, with company announcements published on Monday.
- The company also broke ground on a next-generation paint facility that Toyota projects will cut carbon emissions by about 30 percent and save roughly 1.5 million gallons of water a year.
- Toyota has confirmed the Georgetown plant will add production of a Highlander battery-electric vehicle in September 2026 as part of its multi-pathway electrification plan.
- Independent industry reporting says the Kentucky expansion lifts RAV4 capacity by about 40,000 units a year to help relieve dealer waiting lists and very high turn-rates for the model.
- As context for the region, Toyota has invested roughly $2 billion at the site since 2024 within a total of about $12 billion over the plant’s history, the site has built 15 million vehicles, employs nearly 10,000 people, and Toyota awarded a $500,000 grant to BCTC for hands-on workforce training.
