Toyota Sets March 9 Launch for RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid in Japan With 150 km EV Range

Broader rollouts in Europe and the US follow this spring.

Overview

  • Toyota will offer two grades in Japan—Z and GR SPORT—priced at ¥6,000,000 and ¥6,300,000, with a production target of about 700 units per month.
  • The new plug-in hybrid system delivers a maximum 242 kW (about 324 hp) thanks to a larger battery and SiC semiconductors, with an estimated 150 km EV-only range under WLTC.
  • Vehicle-to-load capability provides up to 1,500W, with about 6.5 days at a constant 400W load or up to seven days in Power Supply Time Priority Mode from a full battery and tank.
  • GR SPORT adds performance dampers from Yamaha, added body bracing, specially tuned suspension and electric power steering, plus aerodynamic bodywork.
  • The powertrain pairs a 2.5-litre engine with dual motors and a reported 22.7 kWh battery, with charging up to 50 kW DC and 11 kW AC, while regional test cycles will yield lower WLTP and EPA range figures than WLTC.
