Toyota Sets 2025 Sales Record, Keeps Global Crown With 11.3 Million Vehicles

A hybrid-heavy lineup plus local output cushioned U.S. tariffs for Toyota.

Overview

  • Group deliveries reached about 11.32 million in 2025, widening Toyota’s lead over Volkswagen, which reported just under 9 million units.
  • Toyota and Lexus sales hit a record 10.54 million, with gasoline-electric hybrids accounting for roughly 42% of parent-company volume and battery-electric vehicles 1.9%.
  • North America led growth with sales up about 7.3% to roughly 2.93 million, Japan also rose, and China edged higher by 0.2% after several years of declines.
  • Toyota estimated U.S. tariffs will cost about 1.45 trillion yen this fiscal year but raised its full-year operating profit forecast after cost cuts and strong overseas demand.
  • Shares rose around 3% after the report as Toyota’s manufacturing footprint limited reliance on imports for U.S. sales compared with some rivals.
