Overview
- Toyota introduced a conservative 2027 update to the GR86 described as “focused enhancements” that leave the car’s underlying platform and engine unchanged.
- The coupe gains a new Thunder gray exterior and a Cockpit Red interior option while the Premium trim gets a cast-iron black finish on switches, knobs and the shifter.
- Engineers changed the throttle calibration to deliver a smoother, more linear response and widened the chamfer of the shifter interlock between 4th and 5th gear by about 0.02 inches to improve downshift feel.
- Safety hardware was upgraded with an added monocular camera for intersection object detection and an improved stereo camera whose recognition range nearly doubles to better detect vehicles ahead when using cruise control.
- Toyota says the 2027 GR86 will reach dealerships this summer in Base and Premium trims, pricing will be announced closer to launch, the 2.4‑liter boxer engine and published performance figures carry over, and the Yuzu Edition appears to be discontinued.
