Toyota Puts $1 Billion Into Kentucky and Indiana Plants to Boost EV and SUV Output

The move advances Toyota’s multi-pathway electrification push under a five-year plan to spend up to $10 billion in U.S. plants.

Overview

  • Toyota, which announced the investment Monday, will spend $800 million in Georgetown, Kentucky, and $200 million in Princeton, Indiana, to expand U.S. vehicle production.
  • Kentucky’s allocation will ready the plant for a second battery‑electric vehicle and raise Camry and RAV4 capacity, while Indiana’s funds will increase Grand Highlander output.
  • Toyota says this tranche is part of its November 2025 pledge to invest up to $10 billion in U.S. factories, and the company did not disclose added volumes or new jobs from this spend.
  • EV-focused outlets report the three-row Highlander battery-electric model will be Toyota’s first U.S.-built EV later this year, and Toyota has not named the second model planned for Kentucky.
  • Alongside the factory upgrades, Toyota committed $4 million to STEM programs in Scott and Fayette County schools and $400,000 to Eastern Kentucky University to build a local manufacturing workforce.
