Toyota Moves Corolla Production to Sorocaba and Plans Second Factory in November

Overview

• Toyota will complete the transfer of Corolla sedan production from Indaiatuba to Sorocaba with Indaiatuba’s productive activities scheduled to end on June 30.
• The company confirmed it will inaugurate a second Sorocaba factory in early November to build new models and hybrid versions and expects the start of operations to create about 2,000 jobs.
• The Sorocaba expansion is part of Toyota’s R$11 billion investment program for Brazil to be executed through 2030 and is presented as a way to modernize processes and raise capacity.
• About 1,500 Indaiatuba employees are covered by a 2024 agreement with the plant’s union that set rules for transfers or voluntary dismissals as workers are moved or compensated.
• Indaiatuba opened in 1998, produced more than one million Corollas and the site built Toyota’s early flex-hybrid models, but Toyota says the plant has physical limits for modernization and its future use remains undecided.
