Toyota Expands Electrified Production at Georgetown Plant With RAV4 Hybrid Start

This advances Toyota's push for flexible, lower-emission U.S. manufacturing by preparing Georgetown to add a Highlander battery-electric model in September 2026.

Overview

  • Toyota Kentucky began assembly of the all-new RAV4 Hybrid on Monday, June 22, 2026, adding hybrid output to its Georgetown production line.
  • The company broke ground the same day on a next-generation paint facility that Toyota says will cut carbon emissions by about 30 percent and save roughly 1.5 million gallons of water each year.
  • Toyota has announced that the Georgetown plant is scheduled to begin production of a Highlander battery-electric vehicle in September 2026, a planned shift that will add battery-electric output alongside hybrids.
  • To support the transition to advanced manufacturing, Toyota awarded a $500,000 grant to Bluegrass Community and Technical College to create a regional workforce training facility focused on hands-on skills.
  • The moves build on roughly $2 billion of investments at Toyota Kentucky over the past two years and more than $12 billion in total funding for the site that has assembled 15 million vehicles and employs nearly 10,000 people.
