Toyota Australia Launches Factory HiLux GVM Upgrade From August
The move targets buyers who want higher payloads without giving up the Toyota warranty.
Overview
- Toyota Australia announced Tuesday a factory-engineered gross vehicle mass (GVM) upgrade for the HiLux, due in August 2026 and priced from $4,000.
- The package lifts payload by 372 to 435 kg to as much as about 1,525 kg, with front and rear axle ratings up by 100 kg and 280 kg and ride height up to 10 mm.
- It applies only to select 4×4 grades with a six-speed automatic — WorkMate and SR/SR5 dual- or extra-cab variants — and must be fitted on the production line for new orders, with no retrofit for existing owners.
- Toyota says the factory fit keeps the five-year warranty and full safety-system compatibility, appealing to fleets and private buyers who might otherwise choose aftermarket kits from Ironman, Pedders or EFS.
- Even with the upgrade, HiLux trails Ford’s Ranger Super Duty on payload, and towing and gross combination limits remain unchanged at 3,500 kg and 6,300 kg.
