Toyota Adds Factory GVM Upgrade to HiLux From August for $4,000

The move gives heavy-load users a warranty-backed alternative to aftermarket suspension kits.

Overview

  • Toyota said Tuesday it will offer a factory gross vehicle mass (GVM) upgrade for the HiLux from August for $4,000.
  • The upgrade lifts the legal loaded-weight limit, raising payload by 372–435kg to up to 1,525kg for buyers who haul gear, passengers or heavy accessories.
  • It adds longer rear monotube shocks that raise ride height by up to 10mm and boosts axle ratings by 100kg at the front and 280kg at the rear.
  • Fitment happens on the Thai production line for new orders only and it applies to 4x4 autos in WorkMate, SR and SR5 double- and extra-cab configurations.
  • Towing and total combination limits stay at 3,500kg and 6,300kg, and Ford’s Ranger Super Duty still tops the class on payload and towing even as Toyota’s factory option keeps full warranty and safety-system compatibility missing from many aftermarket kits.
