Overview
- Tour organisers said Monday the 115th edition will open in Reims on June 24, 2028.
- The race will spend four days in France’s Grand Est region, with stage sites to include Charleville-Mézières, Épernay, Metz, Thionville and Verdun, with the rest of the route to be announced later.
- The earlier June start avoids schedule conflict with the Los Angeles Summer Olympics that begin later that summer.
- The Grand Depart returns to France after recent foreign starts, following Copenhagen in 2022, Bilbao in 2023, Florence in 2024 and Lille in 2025, with Barcelona set for 2026 and Britain in 2027.
- Reims last hosted the opening stage in 1956, a nod to the city’s long Tour history in the Champagne region.
