Total Lunar Eclipse to Turn Singapore’s Moon Red on March 3

Science Centre Singapore will host a free public viewing with telescopes, planetarium shows, plus a YouTube livestream.

Overview

  • The event is confirmed for March 3 in Singapore, with moonrise at 7:15pm, maximum eclipse at 7:33pm, the fully eclipsed phase visible from about 7:47pm to 8:02pm, and the eclipse concluding at 9:17pm.
  • Entry to the Science Centre’s viewing is free on a first-come, first-served basis, with pre-registration opening Feb 20 and onsite registration available from 6pm on March 3 at the main entrance.
  • For safety and logistics, only Centre-provided telescopes may be used during the session, while an optional S$4 bundle offers telescope viewing with a live planetarium show at scheduled times.
  • A livestream will be available on the Science Centre’s YouTube channel, and the eclipse can be viewed safely with the naked eye without special equipment.
  • Observers are advised to find darker locations with an unobstructed eastern horizon and to monitor weather, as cloud cover could hinder visibility, on a night that coincides with the 15th day of Chinese New Year and precedes the next total lunar eclipse only in late 2028.
