Overview
- Heavy, concentrated downpours caused flash flooding that inundated creeks and low-lying areas and produced washouts and mudslides along trails and roads.
- More than half a foot of rain fell in parts of southeast Minnesota and forced temporary closures of some state highways, and major routes that were closed have since been reopened.
- The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources closed Beaver Creek Valley State Park until further notice after floodwaters blocked the park road and damaged a bridge.
- The DNR advised people to stay off the Root River State Trail because of washouts and mudslides, Forestville/Mystery Cave canceled cave tours while staff check safety, and some private campgrounds reported damage.
- Local and county crews are surveying damage and starting cleanup work but warn that possible additional rain could expand closures and slow repairs during the busy holiday weekend so visitors should check official park and road updates before travel.
