Overview
- Torrent Power agreed to procure up to 0.27 million tonnes per annum of LNG from JERA under a 10-year SPA beginning in 2027.
- The LNG will fuel Torrent’s 2,730 MW combined-cycle gas plants to meet rising electricity demand, cover peak loads, and balance renewable generation.
- The supply will also back Torrent Gas’s city gas distribution network serving households, commercial and industrial users, and CNG vehicles.
- JERA says this is its first long-term LNG sales deal outside Japan, supplying four delivered ex-ship cargoes per year of about 270,000 tonnes.
- Torrent indicated it will seek additional medium- and long-term LNG contracts to diversify supply in light of softer market prices.
