Overview
- The EF-1 tornado struck rural Rio Grande do Sul around 18:25, damaging homes and farms in Giruá, Sete de Setembro and Senador Salgado Filho and injuring seven people.
- A separate cold-front driven storm hit São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro the next day with gusts up to about 124–125 km/h and caused at least five deaths.
- Strong winds felled dozens of trees, toppled poles, cut power to large areas, and forced temporary suspension or diversion of metro, rail and airport operations including Santos Dumont and the Port of Santos.
- Defesa Civil, state fire brigades and municipal teams led search, rescue and evacuation work, deployed heavy machinery to clear roads, and reported partial restoration of services while some searches and clean-up continue.
- Agencies had issued alerts in advance and warned of continued instability and heavy rain (up to roughly 150 mm in 24 hours); supercells can spawn tornados and authorities say the risk of more severe conditions remains in affected regions.
