TON Activates Catchain 2.0 for Sub-Second Finality

The change sets up TON's next step of large fee cuts under Pavel Durov's seven-part MTONGA plan.

Overview

  • Catchain 2.0, which went live Friday, cuts block creation to about 400 milliseconds and brings roughly one-second settlement across the TON network.
  • Because the per-block reward stays at 1.7 TON, faster blocks are projected to raise annual inflation from about 0.6% to near 3.6%.
  • Validators approved the change in votes held April 8–9, and exchanges including Binance and Bithumb ran wallet maintenance to support it.
  • Toncoin’s price jumped on the news to around $1.30 with a brief move to $1.32 before retracing much of the gain.
  • Next on the MTONGA roadmap is a targeted sixfold fee cut, with access set to widen when Rakuten Wallet lists TON for spot trading on April 15 in Japan.
