Tomodachi Life Debuts at No. 1 in Japan With 565,405 Physical Sales

The outsized launch signals strong demand for Nintendo releases in Japan’s boxed retail market.

Overview

  • Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream led Japan’s physical chart last week on Switch with a 565,405-copy launch, according to Famitsu’s estimates reported by Gematsu.
  • Capcom’s PRAGMATA opened at 36,470 copies on PlayStation 5, and the Switch 2 version did not place in the top 10, as noted by VGC’s read of the Famitsu chart.
  • Pokémon Pokopia on Switch 2 sold 19,096 more boxed copies and now sits at 910,005 tracked retail units since its March release.
  • Hardware sales kept Nintendo in front as Switch 2 moved 44,280 units for the week to reach 5.107 million lifetime in Japan, with PlayStation 5 family at 10,730 and Xbox Series at 454.
  • Famitsu’s rankings track only physical retail, so digital downloads are not counted, yet the large debut and steady hardware totals show that big boxed launches still carry weight in Japan; extended rankings 11–30 are due April 24.
