Tom Petty Boxed Set Origins 1971–1978 Announced for November Release

Collectors will receive unreleased 1970s tracks, newly remixed early albums, restored live film, plus deluxe multi-format packaging.

Overview

  • The Tom Petty estate and UMe announced Origins 1971–1978 Wednesday and opened pre-orders for a multi-format boxed set due Nov. 6, 2026.
  • The announcement was previewed by the newly released 1978 track “Parade of Loons,” accompanied by an animated video starring actor Iain Armitage.
  • The five-LP/4-CD packages, including an “uber deluxe” edition, collect No Sleep Til L.A. (a 12-track rarities disc with seven unreleased songs), newly mixed 50th-anniversary editions of the first two albums, Live From the Record Plant 1977 and The Cut Out Bin rarities disc.
  • Longtime engineer Ryan Ulyate remixed and remastered the early albums and the set’s Blu-ray offers high-resolution stereo plus Atmos and 5.1 mixes while the DVD presents the restored 1978 Old Grey Whistle Test performance.
  • The announcement coincided with the Heartbreakers’ Lifetime Achievement recognition at the Americana Honors & Awards, where original members reunited on stage, and the release furthers archival preservation ahead of the band’s semicentennial and the 10th anniversary of Petty’s death in October 2027.
