Overview
- Starting this spring, the Bronx will be divided into Bronx North and Bronx South, bringing nearly 200 additional officers and adding homicide, narcotics, evidence, auto crime and Neighborhood Safety Team units.
- Officers will cycle through recurring weeklong in-service training focused on tactics, de-escalation, constitutional policing, legal standards and situational awareness.
- A new digital 311 dispatch for Q-Teams and digitized precinct command logs will give leadership structured workflows and real-time views of precinct operations.
- The Domain Awareness System will be upgraded to DAS 2.0 to push real-time alerts to the field, including license-plate reader hits and live drone video for supervisors.
- The NYPD is investing in drone-mitigation equipment and training while awaiting expected federal approval, and Tisch also named Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Rev. A. R. Bernard co-chief chaplains and set a July 16 renaming of the Police Academy for Detective Steven D. McDonald.
