Overview
- A large section of a tin platform shed over Platform No. 5 at Lucknow Charbagh gave way and fell onto the platform, trapping and injuring a travelling ticket examiner and two passengers after an incident that occurred around 8am on Friday, May 29.
- Railway Protection Force, station staff and local workers carried out immediate rescues, the injured were taken to hospital with some later discharged, and an approaching Howrah–Dehradun Express was stopped before the platform, preventing a larger disaster.
- Northern Railway has formed a three‑member inquiry committee, removed the PMC team leader, suspended the RLDA project engineer and local supervisors, and imposed a ₹50 lakh penalty on the EPC contractor as initial disciplinary action.
- Preliminary official findings point to possible negligence and structural problems — including rusting, loosened supports after nearby removals, and crane or renovation activity on the site — but the formal investigation is ongoing.
