Overview
- The Timberwolves announced on August 14, 2026 that Kevin Garnett’s No. 21 will be retired at Target Center following the Feb. 28, 2027 home game against the Boston Celtics.
- Team owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez said Garnett’s return as a team ambassador made the honor possible and framed the retirement as recognition of his impact on the franchise.
- The jersey retirement will serve as the centerpiece of a season‑long celebration called KG Theme Nights that will include multiple giveaway nights and an exclusive T‑shirt for attendees of the Feb. 28 ceremony.
- Garnett is the Timberwolves’ all‑time leader in points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and games played, he won NBA MVP in 2003‑04, an NBA title with Boston in 2008, and he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2020.
- The move ends a years‑long delay tied to a falling out with former owner Glen Taylor and will make Garnett only the second player in franchise history to have his number retired, joining Malik Sealy.
